I'm neither Gandhian nor anti - Gandhian (PART - 1)

    And finally, world war 1 was concluded then after few years, German invaded Poland. Wait wait wait... hold on a second, why did you go to Poland now instead of staying at India's freedom struggle? Your mind might be confused a bit, but yeah this is nothing to do with our Indian freedom struggle... oh sorry, Gandhi's movements. But when German invaded Poland, Britain and France declared war against them and that was the trigger point where World war 2 was going to start but no one had an idea how destructive it would be.

    In 1939, Indian Nationalists wanted Britishers to approach them before recruiting our Indians into their army for war. But the sudden invasion of German into Poland, thereafter Britain declaring war, they didn't feel like asking our nationalists instead they forced a few of our Indians to join their army. And when this happened our nationalists took this issue to Gandhiji who was then a member of INC (Indian National Congress). He refused to take part in the war and every nationalist was furious for dragging our India into this war. But the irony was that the Muslim League supported for participating in the war.

    Gandhiji then called everyone for a movement against the rulers as the Britishers disobeyed their agreement. It was not for independence. Then what for this movement took place? Was it helpful in any manner? Nothing much happened but it was the period during which the Britishers focused on war rather than suppressing the movements in India. And along with that the politics and government were unstable in England those days.

    And this movement which was led by Gandhiji is very well known as the Quit India Movement which was the last movement to place as a part of freedom struggle. This movement's initial motto was not for freedom. But turned out to be a freedom struggle due to loopholes which we took advantage of. As I mentioned during this period England government was unstable and also it was in great debt and top of all the war cost them many lives and collateral damage. This decreased control over the colonies. On the other side, our Quit India Movement gained its momentum and demanded Britishers for our independence.

    Initially, the Britishers came to a round table where they didn't mention about the self-governance for our India, this frustrated our nationalists and other members of INC. And they demanded to leave our country. And during this period, across the world, many countries were getting freedom from the Britishers' rule. And the same happened to us. And finally, they left our country officially on 15th August 1947.

    It is great that Gandhiji was also part of the freedom struggle. But what if he didn't face discrimination on the train and what if he wasn't kicked out of the train in South Africa? Will he really be patriotic and know what was going in our country? Few say that without Gandhiji, we couldn't have achieved our freedom. How many of you agree with these few people? And why is he called the father of the nation? Didn't other great leaders and freedom fighters selflessly sacrifice their lives?

     Mid of May 2015, my father put two books in front of me, one is "Ramayan" and another one is "The Story of My Experiments with Truth". He said to give a try and read those books. I read Ramayan interestingly, I loved the way of description. And then I started reading another book, autobiography which I'm not a big fan of it. Few might have read to know about this man and few others might have read for a time pass. I get bored by autobiographies. Until this book came into my life Gandhi's autobiography. Sorry if I didn't mention Mahatma before Gandhi, I know, I've intentionally done it.

    Gandhi's life story:

"    Gandhiji dreamt of studying in foreign universities and to work and earn more money. He never dreamt of being a freedom fighter. Until he faced discrimination. Then he opened his eyes just to see our mother India in the hands of Britishers. Later on, he got patriotic and started the revolution against the rulers. He used non-violence as his weapon to win against Britishers. And in many movements like the non-cooperation movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, the Quit India Movement, etc... many great leaders and freedom fighters joined Gandhiji. And finally, we got Independence on 15th August 1947."

    A really great personality, we must stand for two minutes and maintain silence on 30th January of every year. Why? Because he fought for freedom and brought us freedom. Oh yeah... I forgot sorry, he gave us freedom yeah. Then what did Netaji do, was in playing XI for the Indian cricket team? What for Rani Jhansi Laxmibhai gave her life, didn't score good marks in exams? Is Chandra Shekar Azad not a human being? At least anyone remembers his name? Why did these people sacrifice their life?? Was life that funny for those who fought till their last breathe? These questions started luring my brain with some interesting facts.

    For the first time in my history, I started to read something from history to know the history and to link and understand the history behind the silent but sound freedom struggle led by our father of the nation. Those questions were quarreling in my mind for the first position to get solved until I got some lead. I don't remember exactly what happened that day but I was fascinated to know more facts about the world wars 1 & 2. 

    World war 1, a great period where the colonials together fought with the help of their colonized people against other colonials. Britishers who ruled many countries were also part of it. At that time, many rebellious activities and protests took place but Britishers were more powerful, so they suppressed every movement that took place. Rebellions who hadn't shown up to join in the army were tortured. And finally, they had recruited a good amount of people and participated in the war. Yeah, they lost but still, they had the capacity and power to control us and rule us.

       After world war 1 what has changed? Is there anything to do with world war 1 and India's freedom struggles??

Tribute to SPB Sir.

    In my childhood, my dad used to narrate me few inspiring and motivating short stories of a few legends. But I was not very matured enough to understand those inspiring lives which my dad was talking about, instead, I used to just hear them and keep in my mind. One day, the story was about this great soul Sripathi Panditaradhyula Balasubrahmanyam, very well known as SP Balasubramanyam or SPB. So the short story as per my dad's narration was:

"    In the early days of SPB sir's career, many people started discouraging him because he had a rough voice which people thought would be unpleasant to hear. But now see who he is now. One of the most talented singers in the world who can read and understand music very well. So you don't let any of the discouraging statements to push you down. You just keep doing your work and practice well rest leave to the god."

As I said, I just heard my dad's narration but felt nothing instead I remembered this short narration. Many such stories I remind myself when I feel low. Few of you know what is my dream, not a final big dream but a small one. Wait, most of you don't know that I dream about making music globally. So, in my childhood, I neither had access to any musical instruments nor to any tutor to learn music. And still, I know that asking my dad to buy a musical instrument would eventually raise up a cool person's blood pressure. So I never asked him regarding that. In my junior college life, I wrote many songs, a few of which were inked down in my diary, a few of them were burned down to ashes and the rest were welcomed by dustbin. 

    And I dreamt to start singing but most of my friends said, " Dude, please don't spoil songs." Initially, I used to take those words to heart and felt discouraged. But that was the time when the short story which my dad narrated in my childhood started making sense. The thing which was stored in one small corner of my brain for almost a decade started to shift slowly to the heart. Slowly I used it as my drug to motivate myself until I had my own philosophies for self-motivation. Yeah, now I do have my own set of motivating lines and works but still that short story remains in my heart inspiring forever.

    I know this is a very short story, just two minutes of narration, but it has more weight in my life. And do you know that even one small inspiring and motivating line would drive us to dream bigger? I don't know how many of you would agree but it happened in mine. I started dreaming big. And because of this story, I started telling my friends those who said that you can't sing, your vocals are bad, "Dude, if you like my song listen and share it or else leave it, but one day I will sing great for sure such that unconsciously you would groove to my music and share yourself." I still know I'm a very bad singer, but for sure I believe that I would bring something new to the music lovers. And I thank my dad for those words and stories and also I would, wholeheartedly, thank this legend to live such an inspiring life.

    To be frank I didn't hear many of his songs, not at least 15 of his songs even. But the songs which I heard just left me speechless. He caught almost all the ears of every human being in 5 decades of his career with his soothing voice. When I started loving his voice, my ears always kept music and lyrics aside. And do you know how many languages he sang? Before revealing the fact, just ask yourself how many languages you know? Out of them how many languages you can speak fluently? On average our answer would be no more than 4 or 5.  Can you believe that SPB sir sang in 16 languages? In fact, I was shocked when I knew that he dedicated his voice and gave life to more than 40,000 songs covering 16 Indian languages. 

    Every human being has death but not for a soul, at least not for this great soul. I'm waiting which form would this soul take and continue his legacy from where he ended.
